I slept about four hours last night. I was excited, I am not ashamed to admit it. And all of the packing and excitement got Becca all excited, too. It took me until almost midnight to finally get her to bed.
This morning, I dragged myself out of bed, grabbed a quick shower, and then started hauling our gear down to the van. Now, we are mostly packed, and I am just waiting for Mark and Becca to get up. They are both getting woken up at 9:30.
Three days ago, the weather channel was nice enough to let me know that we were going to get rained on. Every. Single. Day. Now, it is just supposed to rain today, and maybe Tuesday. And maybe a little bit tomorrow. No one really knows. But, by all accounts, Monday is supposed to be beautiful.
Last night, it looked like it was going to rain all day today. And all night. Which would pretty much take out the steaks we were going to grill tonight. I spent a couple hours checking for a cheap restaurant up in the Alex Bay area.
Nothing.
Now, I’m sure there are some up there. But they don’t have websites. And if they do have a website, they don’t have a menu. Maybe I am more sensitive to this because of my career, but it seems like if you have a business, especially if it is in a popular tourist area, you should have a website. A great website. With a menu, if you are a restaurant. This makes sense, right?
Okay. Off of the vacation topic..
***************
Becca has this thing that she does. It’s a new thing. And I don’t really know how to describe it. She sticks her chin off to the side a bit, and scrunches her face all up. I’ll have to get a picture of it, because it is probably the cutest thing I have ever seen. We all just crack up every time she does it.
She now knows the names of a lot of animals, and what they say. Currently, she knows dogs, kitties, cows, chickens, sheep, horse, monkeys and snakes (kinda– we’re still working on that one). She can also sign elephant. She has a big animal picture book that we go through almost every night, looking at the animals and naming them. We are going to the zoo (and Chuck E. Cheese’s) some point during Mark’s vacation, and I can’t wait until she gets to see all of the animals.
We are also working on body parts. She knows all of the main parts, and is usually more than happy to show you. Becca has been picking up words left and right, and I can’t believe how well she is communicating now. The sign language that we have been half-heartedly working on for the past year is now really sinking in. After a couple times of watching me sign something, she has it. This is such an exciting time, and I am really appreciative of the fact that I get to stay home and enjoy it.
Speaking of work, one of my writer friends pointed me in the direction of an online used book store. It’s called Alibris. Most books can be found for right around $2.00 plus shipping. Most are lightly used, but there are a lot of new books, also deeply discounted, available. And they have so much stuff. I need to get on there in the next week or two and pick up some books for work. This is going to become a very addicting site, I can tell.
It’s almost time to get everyone up, and I still have a little more to get done. Have a great weekend, everyone!
