House of Sickness

by Margo on April 26, 2009

I don’t know what it is with the people I live with. They are determined to make every weekend a sick-person party. Two weekends ago, Mark had a really nasty head cold. As soon as he started to feel better, Becca came down with it. She was sick all week, and into the weekend. Finally they both were feeling better this week, besides a residual runny nose.

And then Mark comes home Thursday night with pink eye.

Luckily, we still had an unopened tube of antibiotic eye cream from when the staff at the evening care clinic at the hospital thought Becca had pink eye last summer. (She rubbed sun screen in her eye.) So he used that, and it was mostly cleared up by Saturday morning. He did end up taking Friday off from work, though.

Becca and I managed to last this long without catching it. Except Becca has been having some discharge from her right eye. But the same stuff is also coming out her nose, and it’s not puss, like Mark’s was. I think it is more related to her sinus problems from the cold she had. Her eyes look okay, except for the occasional bit of goop in them.

She has a check-up tomorrow anyhow, so I’ll have the doctor check her out then. I’m not worried about it, though. My goal is that, after all of this, I want to keep everyone healthy for at least two weeks. Wouldn’t that be something? It might even be doable, too, if Mark quits bringing germs home from work. I told him this weekend that I am sending him back– Extended warranties, and all that. Lol.

It doesn’t help that it has been so crazy hot up here in New York. Our average temperature for this time of year is about 60°. Yesterday and today it almost hit 90°, and it’s supposed to be even hotter tomorrow. I am considering pulling out the AC for a few days. We live on the third story, and most of our windows are level with the floor, making it difficult to keep them open with Becca running around.

In other news…

I got my hair cut yesterday. Really cut. As in, about 10 inches off. It is now above my shoulders, and I love it. I haven’t been to a salon to get a hair cut in a few years. I was a little nervous going in, but Christina Davis, over at Color Me Red, did an amazing job. I know Shannon (my sister) took some pictures today while we were at the park, so as soon as she posts them, I’ll sneak on over to her Myspace page and grab any that show off the cut.

I have a big announcement coming tomorrow, so make sure you stop back to see what’s going on. Something very exciting is coming to Writer Mom at Home, and you won’t want to miss it.

Hey! If there is a big anouncement involved, I want to know first! Or at least before it’s posted! :)
