Happy 4th of July!
Holiday weekends are great. Mark gets an extra day off, and we get to spend more time as a family.
We had a great weekend planned. Friday, we get groceries, go to the mall, and then go to the firework display at a local park. Saturday was supposed to be a barbecue and get together up at my dad and step-mom’s camp. Sunday and Monday? Work. And see my mother-in-law at some point.
Here is what really happened.
Thursday night, I drank two cups of Pepsi, hoping to stay awake until 10 or 11, getting some work done. I was still up at 2:30 when Mark came home. I was still up an hour and a half later, too. And then I got up with Becca at 8:00. Four hours of sleep. Awesome way to start the long weekend.
Mark got up at noon, and I quickly realized that the milk I needed for making mac&cheese went into his coffee. And there was nothing else to make. So we got ready quickly, and went to KFC for lunch before heading up to the nearby mall.
After a quick stop to Dick’s Sporting Goods (for some camping gear), we headed to Target. Which is always fun because Holy Cow Chocolate. Is anyone else addicted to their Choxie Chocolates?? Yum.
We stopped for groceries on our way back home, dropped them off at the apartment, and rushed up to watch the fireworks. We ended up parked right next to the dad and older sister of one of my best friends from high school. I haven’t seen these people in 7 years. But it was nice to catch up a little.
The fireworks started at 10:00. By that point, Becca was half asleep, and feeling a little warm. I figured it was because of the sweatshirt she was wearing. The show was amazing, and I got some great pictures. Which I will post soon.
We got home around midnight, got Becca in to bed, and I got a little bit of work done before falling asleep next to her. She woke up crying around 2:00, running a high fever of 102.8° F. We got her Tylenol, watched some cartoons (thank you, DVR), and she fell back asleep. We pulled out the futon, and the two of us fell asleep there while Mark went into the bedroom. I wanted to keep an eye on her without keeping him up all night.
Her fever was back again by morning. By that point, she couldn’t keep down tylenol, but I could nurse her with no problems. She was sick a few times during the day, with a little diarrhea. Without being able to give her tylenol, we couldn’t get the fever down all the way. We skipped the barbecue, and stayed up watching movies instead. Which meant no smores. I will have to bring extra marshmallows to camp with us.
Side note: Burn After Reading is the most messed up movie I’ve seen in a long time. A really long time. But I’ll be watching it again. It was really funny. For those of you who haven’t seen it, it is a satire of action/spy movies. It is worth seeing even if you don’t like that sort of thing.
Becca no longer has the fever, but her stomach is still a little upset. I’m hoping she is back to normal within a day or two. It’s no fun seeing her so miserable. Mark takes it much harder than I do, though. He has been panicky over the whole thing. Which, on one hand, is really cute and endearing. See how much he cares? Aww…
On the other hand, it is a fever. A mild stomach bug. She is not going to die because her brain is melting. For Pete’s sake, RELAX. And stop driving me crazy. She will be fine, ohmygod.
So, how was your holiday weekend?

Lol, so the good news is that we didn’t have smores, at least we hadn’t when I left. I had to be to work this morning at 8 so I left early but Shannon stayed and said the fireworks were amazing…jerks. That sucks that McGoo is sick. Hope she is feeling better.
Sorry to hear the little munchkin was not feeling well.
Hopefully she is better now. I always feel bad when they are sick-well because they are sick and do the same things as you. Usually it is a free for all with all three coming down with whatever illness is being passed around so I get to do the extended version until the last child is illness free. Gotta love it, eh? And FYI-s’mores can be made in the microwave. Layer it the same way as usual and then nuke for 15 seconds. Not quite toasty, but it works! LOL!!!
