Dear Kid Saturday- It’s Not a Toy!

Dear Becca,

Mommy has awesome, cool, amazing toys; toys like the laptop, the modem, and the microwave. And I totally understand that these toys are way better than the five million toys that you have. You know, the ones that are actually yours?

It has been a very trying week. You have not been very nice to my toys. On Wednesday, you somehow managed to push enough buttons on my laptop to wreck havoc on the laptops power. I came back into the living room from making breakfast to find my laptop screen totally black. Usually you just push the sleep button, so I wasn’t concerned, at least not until I glanced over to the laptop 15 minutes later and realized that the computer was still sleeping. I was able to fix it, but I just about had a heart attack. Losing the computer would be a very bad thing.

And then yesterday you “watered” the modem. After it quit working for almost a half hour, and after I was half way to a full-blown anxiety attack, I finally figured out how to get it going again. I had to unplug everything (probably should have done that, anyway), remove the battery, and wait a bit.

All I can say is that it is a good thing that you are adorable. And that the college students living next door aren’t smart enough to put a password lock on their wireless network, allowing me to borrow their service when I need to look for answers (thank goodness for the Wii’s wireless internet surfing capabilities!)

Your fascination with my office stuff pales next to your fascination with the microwave, though. You have been all over it, especially now that you can finally reach it in the new higher-than-before location. (great.) You were back into it yesterday while I was trying to work. I went over to you, pulled you away, and said no. Two minutes later, I was back over there. I said “No” a little sterner this time.

I turned my back, and you were right back at it. I marched over there, shook my finger, and gave you my very sternest “No!”

At which point, you looked up at me, shook your finger right back at me, and responded “Yes!”

I thought I was going to bite right through my lip, I was trying so hard not to laugh. I was able to contain myself for all of two seconds. I tried, I really did. You just amaze me sometimes.

It hasn’t been a totally rough week, though. On thursday, Grandma Sheila and Grampa Tracy came over, and we all walked down to the Blue Frog for ice cream. You loved the walk. And we have had a lot of fun this week. It’s been busy, but we got through it. Hopefully next week is a little less exciting.
Love,
Mommy
