Dear Becca,
This post is a little late, because we’ve all been sick, but you had such a fun time on Saturday that I wanted to make sure that I got this up. Better late than never, and all that.
Your cousin Dylan is 11 months younger than you are, and you haven’t seen a lot of each other. But when you do get a chance to see him, you get so excited. He is just fascinating to you. He is smaller than you are, and he is pretty entertaining. He can make noises now, and he loves to smile and giggle.
Grandma Carole was over to see you on Saturday, and she was running a bit behind schedule. She was supposed to be babysitting Dylan that evening while Aunt Catie and Uncle Jesse went to a concert. Rather than having her leave shortly after getting here, we just had Catie drop Dylan off here for a bit.
As soon as you saw him, you burst into a huge grin. When Grandma sat down on the couch so you could see him, you rushed over, and began talking to him. You investigated his bald head, his fingers, his socks… He watched you, and was doing fine until you whacked him in the head. I know you were trying to be nice, but it was a little too rough for him.
We brought out a couple of your toys for you to share with Dylan. He loved your drums. At first you weren’t too sure about this. These are your toys, after all. And he was kinda hogging them. But after you caught onto the fact that you were expected to share, you did just fine. You even brought him the remote, your most favorite toy of all.
My favorite part of the visit, though, was when you tried to show Dylan how to clap. Grandma Carole was clapping his hands for him while you clapped along. When she let go, you immediately reached down, grabbed his hands, and started clapping them together. You were so proud of yourself, and you definitely gave us all a good laugh.
You were fine with Grandma holding Dylan. You were even fine when Daddy was holding him. You shared your sippy cup (he loved it. The cold water felt really good on his sore gums. We were so proud of you for offering to share on your own!), and some of your teething toys.
You drew the line at sharing your Mommy, though. The moment I sat down with Dylan, you started to fuss. All of the sudden, you were not so interested in sharing anything. It didn’t help that Daddy was playing peek-a-boo with the baby. You felt a little left out. Luckily, Grandma noticed and started chasing you around again. And I didn’t hold Dylan for very long. He might be small and cute, but I would rather play with you. You are my favorite, and don’t you forget it.
Love,
Mommy
