It's time to look for a new look.

I’ve been toying with the idea of putting up a new theme to Writer Mom at Home. I really liked this design when I first put it up, but now.. I think maybe something different would be nice. I want to have more say in the customizations. I want to be able to play around with the colors and such.

I haven’t looked too hard for a new theme, but I have a couple ideas. I just wanted to give you all a head’s up, before you show up on the site some day or another, and things look a little different. It’ll still be Writer Mom at Home. I’m just going to give the site a make-over.

This is the 50th post from Writer Mom at Home. So, have I learned anything?

50 Post? Sounds like a reason to celebrate. Cupcakes for all!

I have been blogging since September 2008. I have been blogging regularly since Mid-January this year. Writer Mom at Home launched on April 1st, just under two months ago.

When I realized, after my most recent post, that this was going to be post #50, I tried to think up some great post ideas. I could tell you all about how I got into blogging, but I already did, in My Blogging Quest. So I decided instead to write about some of the things I have learned while blogging.

The first thing I learned is that blogging can be a great release. It can be a way to gain perspective on a situation. There have been several times that just writing a blog post about a problem can help me to find a solution. Even before anyone was reading my posts, I was still getting a lot out of just being able to write them.n m,k.

Blogging is a full contact sport, and you will get bumped and bruised. Although this hasn’t happened here as much, I have seen this on my other blogs. Ask for advice? If you have a large enough readership, you’ll probably get a fair amount of criticism too, and a lot of “Well, I can’t help you because I would never be in that position myself.” There are also times when you will reach out to connect with another blogger, only to be mostly ignored. It sometimes feels like high school all over again.

Blogging is a social activity. If you want to be successful, you need to do more than just write great posts, although that can definitely help. You need to go find other similar blogs, and comment regularly. You need to seek out other blogs, forums, chats, and other types of communities. Finding readers involves the ability to market your blog, and yourself, to other bloggers, and blog readers. Something else that I have learned? That I am able to do this, despite my tendencies towards shyness in the real world.

Blogging is addictive. I kind of saw this one coming, but I didn’t realize just how bad it was going to get. And once we got the digital camera? So much worse. It is no longer enough to have great posts about our lives. They now need pictures. Setting up a new bed? Get out the camera. Lost in the middle of nowhere (story coming soon)? Where is my camera? (No pictures of that one. Camera was in the back of the vehicle, and I couldn’t get to it.) I go through my days thinking up (and usually discarding) several different post ideas. It’s always in the back of my mind.

I’ve learned, most importantly, that there is always more to learn. There are a lot of websites and books out there devoted to improving the blogging, writing, and technical skills skills you need to be a great blogger. And I am trying to take advantage of this. This is post 50. When I get to post 500, I want to be able to look back, and see a road paved with a lot of success, a few challenges, and mostly, with a lot more lessons learned.
