Mommy Moments post from Sept. 4, 2008
******************************************
So I had a really long post all set for today. And then it was sucked into the blackhole of the internet. Forgot to save, then had a malfunction. Oops.
Now I need a new topic. I could retype the other post, but… Yeah. Maybe later. ‘Cuz it was really funny.
I have decided, again, that I am going to force my healthy eating intentions onto my family. Actually, ‘force’ might be a bit strong. Mark loves the idea. But then, we have different approaches to this.
Mark- Hurray! Diet soda, energy drinks, jerky, cheese, and bbq chicken sandwiches.
HUH??
Me- Whole grain bread, yogurt, fruits and veggies, and less junky food.
In all fairness, though, he mentioned veggies too. But he means drenched in dressing or butter and salt. So I’m not certain that it counts.
I really have great intentions, though. I want to raise our family to eat healthily. I really do. It’s important to me. The problem with this idea is that, one, healthy food is so freaking expensive. Like bread, ok? 2.29 for two big loaves of white, or the same price for one smallish healthy loaf. Which wouldn’t be bad if Mark didn’t bring 3 sandwiches to work each night. Not counting what we go through at home…
The second issue: convenience. Healthy eating is not always quick and easy. I much prefer the prep time for a hot pocket over that of a real meal. Yeah, I’m lazy sometimes. But I am trying to get better about this.
So we’re forging ahead this month with a new meal plan. More real food, less stuff from a box. And the answer to the bread issue? We’re researching bread makers…
