Mommy Moments Post – September 5, 2008

Ah.. The wonderful sleep deprivation of motherhood. This past week, I have foolishly decided to get my daughter to sleep at a decent time. My daughter is a genius. She saw this coming. And she prepared a counter-strike.
So, instead of going to bed at 9:30 (old time) or 8:00 (ideal new time), we have been up until midnight. HA! But even then, she doesn’t sleep well until 3-4:00. And then she is getting up by 8:00. Only to fall asleep in my arms two hours later. And if I move, like, say, to go back into the bedroom? She will wake up, and just be cranky all day until I finally (hopefully) get her down for a nap around 3:00. So we are both sleep deprived and cranky. So, sleep training is on hold until we get through this spell, and get some sleep. Which kind of seems counter-intuitive, but we are using the no cry sleep solution. Elizabeth Pantley- you are a genius, and I love you. (No Cry is her book. One of her books. She is amazing. Check her out.) However, the sleep solution requires work. And commitment. And, darn it, I’m just too tired right now.
There is also all the cute stuff she does while fighting off sleep. She can be the funniest baby. She crawls around the bed, talking. Then she’ll get in front of the fan, and just go nuts. On her knees, bouncing up and down, clapping and laughing. Then, she’s over to play with the wall. Then the headboard, and my hairties hanging off of it. Crawling over and around me, stopping briefly to nurse, cuddle, or look at a book. But never long enough to get sleepy. I get such a kick out of her. I want to keep this playtime part of our routine, because I know it won’t be long before she outgrows this, too.
